The valley of Rivendell is also known as Imladris and The Last (or First) Homely House. Elrond the Half- Elven dwells there, surrounded by many of the great elflords who remain in Middle Earth. This view is very likely from near the point where Bilbo first encountered the Elves after he arrived in Rivendell as described in the chapter A Short Rest in The Hobbit.
